The Big House is the largest Super Smash Brothers event series in the Midwest. Since 2011, it has been the go-to annual convention for Smash fans not only in the Midwest, but across the world. Over three days, The Big House runs a singles (1v1) event, doubles (2v2) event, and various exhibitions for both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

This year The Big House is on October 6-8, 2017.
This year The Big House is at the Cobo Center in Detroit, MI. It’s the biggest convention center in the state of Michigan with several hotels within walking distance!

All tournament obligations begin at 10am EST on Friday, October 6th. That means if you are a competitor, be prepared to play at 10am EST on Friday, October 6th, although you may be able to arrive later depending on your eventual pool assignments. If you are a spectator, you may drop in at any time during event hours throughout the weekend.

There is no age restriction at all. Historically we have seen players and spectators of all ages. Everyone is welcome to register, as well as any family members who wish to accompany them!
Yes, spectators must register online before the event. No transactions on the weekend of the event. The Big House will check in attendees at the door, and you must have your spectator pass to be allowed entry into the venue.
At the beginning of the tournament, players are divided into pools of several players each. The size of the pool depends on the overall number of entries. Each pool progresses until there are only a few players left; these players advance to the next phase of the tournament. Exact format to be announced in the coming weeks.
Only sponsors and vendors are allowed to sell merchandise at the venue. We will post more information later about how to make a business inquiry as a sponsor or vendor. Our registration page will have a vendor application posted by August.
No. The Big House is online registration only. If you show up at the door without having registered online, you will be turned away by event security.

Competitor registration ends September 17, 2017 at 11:59pm EST.

Spectator registration remains available online until event weekend.

If you registered successfully, you should receive a confirmation email titled: “Registration for The Big House 7”

Furthermore, your event dashboard should show the events for which you’ve registered succesfully.

No. The only exception is a closed-cap water bottle. Violations of this policy will result in disqualification from the event and/or eviction from the venue.

No, sorry. Entries cannot be refunded or transferred.

In the week before the event, check your event dashboard or search for your gamertag on the attendees list on smashgg.

Your pool assignment letter represents starting time, and number represents location. Please make sure to allow plenty of buffer time to check-in and find your pool at the venue. You must check-in before your first tournament obligation if competing.

The easiest way to contribute is to help out as a volunteer during The Big House event. During event registration there’s a checkbox if you’re interested in volunteering, and from that we will send out a volunteer application in late summer!
Go to your event dashboard on smashgg. You may add more events to your entry until the registration deadline.
For ease of access, tournament staff recommends the use of the wired Nintendo Gamecube controller. However, The Wii U Pro controller (battery removed), Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuck, Wii Remote + Classic Controller, and the Nintendo 3DS Family in controller mode are all permitted. Violations related to wireless controller interference will be subject to DQ and possible eviction from the venue.

It will be shipped out by smashgg and you should receive it on or before the week of the tourney (early October). If you didn’t receive it, read below.

You may skip the normal line at the check-in desk and pick up a lanyard, then head directly into the venue.

We will have a check-in desk in front of the venue where you can stand in line to pick up your badge and lanyard.

If you bought any merchandise from smashgg during registration season, or you got an early bird t-shirt, you can pick it up at the venue at the smashgg desk.
